Shopping in the Bronx? There’s an app for that!

The Fordham Road Business Improvement District has launched a mobile app that gives visitors to one of the borough’s largest commercial strips access to coupons and promotions from local retailers, officials said.

The BID, comprised of almost 300 national chains and mom-and-pop shops, is the first business improvement district in the city to have its own shopping app.

“Walking down Fordham Road, you can’t help but notice that almost everyone is holding a mobile device,” said Wilma Alonso, the BID’s executive director.

“We felt it was important to be able to push out information to everyone through their mobile devices,” Alonso added.

The app, produced by Manhattan-based AppRise Mobile, can be downloaded for free by searching “Fordham Road” in Apple’s App Store or on Google Play.
