Estranged wife of famed pianist accused of killing daughters

The estranged wife of famous Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko was accused Monday of killing their two daughters, police said.

Police said Sofya Tsygankova had stabbed herself and was in an “extreme state of distress” when the girls aged 1 and 5 years old were found dead Thursday morning at the family’s home in Benbrook, a Fort Worth, Tex., suburb.

Police said Tsygankova had stabbed herself and was in an extreme state of distress when the children were found dead in the family’s suburban Texas home.

Tsygankova now faces two counts of capital murder in the deaths of Nika Kholedenko and her younger sister Michela, according to Benbrook police Cmdr. David Babcock. Police served the warrants at a Fort Worth hospital where doctors are evaluating Tsygankova’s mental health.

Tsygankova and Kholodenko got married in 2010 but had filed for divorce in November, Tarrant County records show. She wasn’t living with the family when the children died.
