“Girls” star and creator Lena Dunham’s co-stars know how to keep their jobs, gushing and defending their boss at the season four premiere party for the show at the Museum of Natural History on Monday night. Andrew Rannells, who plays Dunham’s pal Elijah on the HBO show, told [email protected] the two have become like an old married couple. “I am going to be her date for the Golden Globes, so we’re really taking our relationship to the next level. We’re going public,” Rannells said. “We really hit it off. We met four years ago filming the show and over the course we became really good friends … I could never replace her.”

Jemima Kirke, who plays Jessa on the series, said she owes her acting career to Dunham, who’s been her friend since they were students at St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights, and will defend her until the end. “They’re so awful to her,” said Kirke about critics of Dunham. “It makes me very angry. It makes me feel very sad,” she said. “It makes me feel very protective and I can’t imagine how Lena deals with it.”

Zosia Mamet, who showed up with a new shade of gray hair, also protected her boss, saying she won’t take criticism of Dunham. “I feel like a Mama Bear sometimes, like, ‘How dare you!’ She’s one of the most exceptional human beings I’ve ever known in my life,” Mamet said. Dunham herself walked the carpet arm-in-arm with show runner Jenni Konner.

STING’S ‘SHIP’ ENDS VOYAGE

After a major push by Sting to save Broadway’s “The Last Ship,” the show will close later this month, producers said Tuesday. RECOVERY AFTER HART ATTACK

Nobody likes to be called “a whore,” but Kevin Hart isn’t holding a grudge against Clint Culpepper, president of Sony’s Screen Gems, who famously derided the comedian in a leaked Sony email. “I’ve known Clint for a long time,” Hart told [email protected] “That’s how he talks.” The star of the “The Wedding Ringer” then spewed out a string of curse words to demonstrate Culpepper’s style of speech. “I can literally read that email in Clint’s voice. So I laughed when I read it.” Uh huh.

CRITICAL TIME FOR ARQUETTE

At the New York Critics Circle Awards, Patricia Arquette told [email protected] she’s never gone after a critic for writing a bad review about her. The “Boyhood” star said she “wanted to write them” to set the reviewer straight, but then “like most lazy people, it just passed.”

S.F. A GOOD ‘LOOKING’ CITY

Before the season two premiere of HBO’s “Looking” on Tuesday night in San Francisco, where the HBO series about gay friends is shot, Jonathan Groff told [email protected] that the half-hour dramedy has struck a chord with locals. “It was amazing shooting the second season after the first one was out in the world,” he says. “Guys would come up to me and say, ‘Your story is my life’ or ‘I work at that bar.’ ” The show returns Sunday.
