Kerry Washinton may be facing a “Scandal” with her new InStyle cover.

The 38-year-old actress shared her new InStyle cover on Instagram Wednesday, which showed her with a significantly lighter skin tone than in real life.

Washington captioned the photo “THRILLED” while fans of the “Scandal” star seemed to disagree.

“Why is she white in this picture,’ someone commented on her post. Another wrote, “they white washed her face and then annihilated her beautiful full lips.”

Both the star’s personal and InStyle’s Instagram are feeling the heat from fans in the comments section.

“It doesn’t look like her. Shame on you. #blackimagesmatter,” someone wrote on InStyle’s post of Washington’s cover.

Because of the amount of backlash, InStyle issued a statement Thursday saying they did not change the actress’ skin.

“While we did not digitally lighten Kerry’s skin tone, our cover lighting has likely contributed to this concern,” the magazine said. “We understand that this has resulted in disappointment and hurt. We are listening, and the feedback has been valuable. We are committed to ensuring that this experience has a positive influence on the ways in which we present all women going forward.”

Washington followed up the magazine’s statement by tweeting out “Beautiful statement. Thank u 4 opening this convo. Its an important 1 that needs to be had.”
