Natalee Holloway missing for 10 years as family awaits news

Ten years have flown by for Natalee Holloway’s mom as she waits for her daughter’s killer to be brought to justice.

And despite the deep sense of loss, Beth Holloway has had moments where she has been “able to find peace and joy” since her daughter disappeared on May 30, 2005, during a graduation trip to Aruba.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years,” Beth Holloway said on NBC’s “Today” show Monday. “It’s just amazing how time has gone by. Where I am today is in a good place. I’ve been able to redefine my life, and I’ve been able to find joy and happiness through my son, through my son’s new family, and my work, so I think I’m in a good place now.”

Natalee went missing at age 18 and has been legally declared dead after she was last seen leaving a nightclub with three men during the Aruba trip. One of the men, Joran van der Sloot, has long been a person of interest in her killing but has never been charged.

Beth Holloway says she still is seeking justice for her daughter, Natalee Holloway, 10 years after the teen disappeared during a trip to Aruba.

The Dutch citizen faces charges in the United States after he promised to lead the Holloway’s to their daughter’s body in exchange for $ 25,000. Instead, he took off with the loot and fled to Peru, where van der Sloot found more trouble.

Five years to the day after Natalee disappeared, van der Sloot murdered 21-year-old Peruvian Stephany Flores Ramirez during a night out at a hotel casino.

He’s currently serving 28 years for the murder and will be extradited to Alabama to face charges in the United States once he finishes his sentence in Peru.

“Justice is being served for the murder of Stephany, but until Joran faces the extortion charges in the U.S., then justice is not being served for Natalee,” Beth said on “Today.”

The case has long confounded authorities, who have taken van der Sloot into custody at least twice, but never charged him. No body has ever been found.

But last month, a new witness, Jurrien de Jong, came forward with another tale, this time telling Inside Edition that he saw van der Sloot carry the girl’s limp body into a crawl space.

The report prompted Natalee’s father, Dave Holloway, to resume his fruitless search for his missing daughter – but Beth Holloway says the entire story is one big hoax.

“Actually, there is no truth to that story,” Beth told the NBC morning show. “Every time there’s an anniversary, whether it’s the five-year mark, and now it’s the 10-year mark, there’s always, I hate to say it, just like some crazies that just come out and they have so placed themselves in Natalee’s story. It’s empty. There is nothing to that story.

“This particular individual has been around for a while trying to get traction to get attention, but he has no information. I think it just makes me sad that he would just keep trying to insert himself into this role of her disappearance and (that) he has information when it’s absolutely untrue.”

Van der Sloot married Leidy Figueroa from behind bars and became a father in September. He’s housed at one of the toughest and most dangerous prisons in Peru.
