An ambulance departs St. John’s International Airport in Newfoundland after seven people were injured on board a diverted flight, which had been bringing passengers from Miami to Milan.

Turbulence injured seven people on board a flight from Miami, diverting the Milan-bound American Airlines jet to Newfoundland.

The rough air struck as Flight 206 cruised about 300 miles off the Newfoundland coast — tossing several crew members and passengers located in the back of a Boeing 747 as it plunged, according to CBC News.

The plane quickly veered northwest for an emergency landing at St. John’s International Airport.

Jordan and Karen Case, of Plano, Tex., were sure the plane would crash into the Atlantic Ocean as fellow passengers screamed and passed out.

“It rolled on its side,” Karen Case told CBC. “I really thought that was it.”

A passenger seated in business class described the turbulence as a “really strong bump.”

The victims, three flight attendants and four passengers, were carried out of the plane on stretchers after the pilot landed at 9:45 p.m. local time. None of their injuries were deemed life threatening.

The pilot believes the turbulence was the remnant of the historic snowstorm that caked New York City with record levels of snow, the Yorkton News reported.

American Airlines officials said the seatbelt light was on when the “severe turbulence” struck.

There were 203 people on board the flight, including crew members.
